Polish Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced his decision not to support Donald Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination and disclosed responses from other European countries.
Sejm Marshal’s Decision
On Monday morning, Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced his decision regarding support for the initiative to award US President Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize. “The world is on the threshold of an epochal change. The order based on international law is unfortunately slowly receding into the past,” said Czarzasty. He believes Europe must take responsibility for its security and that the US has chosen to reduce its presence in Europe.
“Americans are our ally. NATO is a guarantee of our security. Russia is a deadly enemy. The West is allies. The European Union is allies,” stated Czarzasty. He called building new platforms like the Peace Council “illusory” and emphasized strengthening the EU, NATO, UN, WHO, and Poland itself. “In my opinion, President Trump destabilizes the situation in these organizations, representing a policy of force and conducting transactional policy using force,” the marshal explained.
“I will not support the motion for a Nobel Prize for President Trump because he does not deserve it,” Czarzasty declared, emphasizing that his statement concludes the matter.
Decisions of Other European Countries
The Sejm Marshal informed about the state of negotiations at the end of January regarding Trump’s nomination. Czarzasty listed that correspondence was not received by the parliament chairpersons from France, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Slovenia, Norway, Spain, Austria, and Ireland.
The correspondence requesting support for the US president’s candidacy was received, but the parliament chairpersons from Luxembourg, Denmark, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Germany did not plan to support it. As of January 21, decisions had not yet been made by Estonia, Croatia, and Sweden. Latvia supported the initiative.
US and Israel Contact Sejm Marshal
Last Friday, January 30, the Chancellery of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland announced that correspondence had been received regarding support for efforts to award the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump.
“Marshal Czarzasty informed journalists that the initiative to award the Nobel Prize to Donald Trump was undertaken by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson and the Speaker of the Knesset of the State of Israel Amir Ohana. The correspondence received by the Sejm concerns support from the Sejm Marshal for their efforts,” stated the announcement.
