A 60-year-old woman died in hospital after a fatal crash on Poland’s A2 highway involving a Citroen and two trucks.
Accident Details
On the morning of Wednesday, February 4th, a serious accident occurred on the A2 highway near Konotopy (Warsaw West County) between a Citroen passenger car and two trucks. A 60-year-old passenger in the Citroen was killed. Two lanes of the road heading towards Warsaw were initially blocked, causing a multi-kilometer traffic jam.
The accident happened before 6:00 AM when difficult weather conditions prevailed on the A2, with the road covered in snow. The passenger car skidded while changing lanes, first hitting energy-absorbing barriers and then colliding with two trucks traveling in the same direction.
Police Investigation
Preliminary findings indicate the Citroen driver lost control while changing lanes, skidded, struck energy-absorbing barriers, and then collided with two trucks heading the same way, according to Police Superintendent Ewelina Gromek-Oćwieja of the Warsaw West County Police. The 60-year-old female passenger was taken to hospital.
“We received information from the hospital confirming the woman’s death,” added the police officer. The Citroen was carrying three people, and the two trucks were each driven by one driver.
Traffic Impact
Initially, the right and middle lanes were blocked near the accident site, allowing travel only on the left lane. This created an extensive traffic jam stretching to Grodzisk Mazowiecki and the Tłuste junction.
Resolution
Emergency services (fire department, police, and medical rescue) attended the scene. Police took over around 7:00 AM, with road maintenance services handling traffic management. Operations have now concluded, and traffic on the A2 is flowing smoothly.
