Traffic Disruptions Expected at Marszałkowska and Królewska Intersection

Major tram track reconstruction work will lead to significant traffic changes at the intersection of Marszałkowska and Królewska starting Thursday, August 21st, impacting drivers and pedestrians.

Traffic Reorganization Begins Thursday

The contractor responsible for rebuilding the tram tracks at the intersection of Marszałkowska and Królewska has announced a change in traffic organization for Thursday, August 21st. The construction work will shift to the opposite side of the intersection.

Ongoing Marszałkowska Reconstruction

Reconstruction of the track on Marszałkowska Street is currently underway. Both lanes between Widok and Królewska are narrowed to two lanes. The project includes work at the intersection with Królewska.

Second Phase at Królewska

Starting Thursday, August 21st, the work will move to the tram track on the other side of the intersection. Drivers will be able to use the proper lanes in both directions on Marszałkowska, but will have only one lane in each direction. Left turns from Świętokrzyska into Królewska towards Grzybowska will be prohibited.

Traffic Flow Adjustments

Vehicles traveling on Królewska from Plac Piłsudskiego will return to their own lane, with one lane for driving straight or right. Left turns into Marszałkowska will still be restricted. Drivers coming from Grzybowska will proceed straight through the intersection with one lane, traveling “against the flow.” A separate lane will allow right turns into Marszałkowska towards Świętokrzyska. Left turns towards Plac Bankowy will be prohibited.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Access

Tram operators will open pedestrian crossings and a bicycle crossing on Marszałkowska near the Łazienki Park, but will close those on the other side of the intersection. This arrangement will remain in place until mid-September.

One Lane Towards Plac Bankowy

Starting Monday, August 25th, tram operators will occupy the right lane of Marszałkowska near Łazienki Park. Between the intersection with Królewska and the turnaround before Plac Bankowy, drivers will continue to use one lane.

The “Green” Marszałkowska

Marszałkowska is being rebuilt as part of the “New Warsaw Center” project. A row of trees will separate tram tracks from cars, and it will be easier to cross the street.

Future Improvements

Upon completion of all work, drivers will have two lanes of traffic in each direction. A turnaround will be designated near Złota Street. A left turn will be added near Sienkiewicza Street, providing access to the areas around Złota and Zgoda. Additional lanes and bicycle crossings will be available near Złota and Sienkiewicza. Plans also include building a missing section of bicycle path between Świętokrzyska and Królewska.

Emergency Vehicle Access

On the section of track towards the Dmowski Roundabout, a level crossing will be implemented. This is due to a request from the Regional Emergency Medical Service and Sanitary Transport “Meditrans” to maintain the ability for ambulances to navigate this section of the tracks. Between Królewska and Świętokrzyska, a groundcover plant (creeping jenny) will grow between the rails.
