SOP Officer Threatened Death; Minister Claims He Was Ziobro’s Bodyguard

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński revealed a suspended SOP officer threatened a journalist while previously serving as Justice Minister Ziobro’s bodyguard.

Minister Comments on SOP Scandal

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński addressed the issue involving a State Protection Service officer. The threatening recording, published by Telewizja Republika, dates back to February 2024, revealing “deep, bad processes” in the services under the previous PiS government.

“I want to debunk the false narrative,” Kierwiński stated. The media referred to the officer as a bodyguard for Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski, but Kierwiński revealed he had served for five or six years as Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro’s bodyguard, raising questions about previous background checks.

Officer Suspended Amid Investigation

Colonel Wojciech B. of the State Protection Service allegedly threatened TV Republika journalist Piotr Nisztor during private conversations. The scandal gained attention when Telewizja Republika obtained a recording from early 2024, reportedly made by the officer’s partner.

The SOP filed a report with the prosecutor regarding a possible crime. The officer was suspended from his duties on October 26, 2025. The minister noted that upon taking power in December 2023, his administration inherited services in “a tragic situation” under the previous government.

Purge of SOP Leadership

This week, the State Protection Service dismissed four directors of key departments. Kierwiński commented that “SOP was not in good condition,” leading to the personnel decisions being made.
