US Ambassador to Poland Questions Military Aid in Private Social Media Post

US Ambassador Tom Rose sparked diplomatic tensions with Poland after questioning military cooperation in a private social media post.

Rising Tensions in Polish-American Diplomatic Relations

On Thursday, February 5th, Tom Rose announced on X that the US side would “no longer maintain contact or communicate with Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty.” He added that the reason for the decision was “outrageous and completely unfounded insults against President Trump.” This is a reaction to the Polish politician’s decision not to support granting Donald Trump the Nobel Peace Prize.

In response to the ambassador’s announcement, Czarzasty emphasized that while he “continues to respect the US as a key partner of Poland,” he will not change his position.

Ambassador Rose’s Private Account Responses

Ambassador Rose responded from a private account to a social media user’s post on X regarding Donald Tusk. The man wrote: “God, protect us from such friends. We will handle the enemies ourselves. Poland never ‘held back a bit’ (this refers to Donald Trump’s words – ed.) and will never accept American dictatorship. The Polish nation respects its sovereignty. Go home.” In response, Rose asked from his private profile: “Should we take all our soldiers and equipment with us?”

Rose also responded to American political scientist Ian Bremmer (known for criticizing Trump’s policies) when the ambassador gave language advice (“Whose, not who’s. When addressing the prime minister, I assume you want to do it right”). Rose replied: “Thanks for that, genius.”

US Media Coverage of the Conflict

The conflict sparked by the announcement of the US Ambassador in Warsaw about breaking contacts with Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty is widely covered in the United States. It was the subject of both agency reports and press publications.

“The MAGA movement ambassador is furious at an ally for dismissing Trump’s fantasy about the Nobel Peace Prize,” wrote The Daily Beast and added that right-wing President Karol Nawrocki criticized Czarzasty for his actions, while Prime Minister Tusk defended him, noting that allies should respect each other.

“Polish Prime Minister criticized US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose over the diplomat’s statement that Polish parliament chairman Włodzimierz Czarzasty would be blacklisted due to his opposition to President Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize,” reported The Hill, reminding that Trump had been criticized in Europe for downplaying the role of soldiers from NATO countries in Afghanistan.

A comprehensive article about the conflict in Poland was also published by the prestigious Washington Post, as well as all major press agencies – AP, Reuters, and Bloomberg, whose dispatches were in turn published by media throughout the United States.
