Polish ‘Sniper’ Arrested in Italy for Window Shootings

A 60-year-old Polish man arrested near Rome for shooting at homes and cars from his apartment window.

Mysterious Shots

Shots were fired in the Montebello district of Bracciano, near Rome, for weeks. Residents reported bullets hitting homes, windows, walls, and even moving cars, causing significant concern over potential injuries.

Area Observation and Perpetrator Located

Carabinieri from Bracciano analyzed bullet trajectories to pinpoint the shooting area. After securing the zone, they narrowed down suspicious buildings. On February 2, following more shots, they entered an apartment building and identified the specific apartment, which was then searched after initial resistance.

Arsenal in Apartment

Police found a makeshift shooting position in the kitchen. They seized six firearms, with at least three generating 40-50 joules of energy—far exceeding Italy’s 7.5-joule limit for pneumatic guns. The apartment also contained suppressors, hundreds of pellets of various calibers, automatic loading systems with gas cylinders and compressors, and expensive long-range optics.

Shots from Over 150 Meters

Investigators confirmed some targets were over 150 meters away, proving the weapons posed a real danger to people, homes, and vehicles in the area. The arrested Pole, with no prior record, faces charges of illegal firearm possession, weapon modification, and property damage.

Prosecutor’s Decision and Next Steps

Ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office at the Civitavecchia Court, the man was detained and held in the local prison. After questioning and court approval, he was placed under house arrest. The investigation continues, with ballistic experts further analyzing the seized weapons.
