Poland faces an extended period of extreme cold, with temperatures plummeting to -20°C in some regions through early next week.
Extended Cold Forecast
According to the latest forecast from IMGW (Institute of Meteorology and Water Management), weak snow and rain with snow will occur in the south of the country and in Pomerania on Monday. It will be coldest in the northeast, where the minimum temperature will drop to as low as -20 degrees. In central Poland, temperatures will be around -8°C at night, while in the southwestern regions, it will reach up to 0°C. During the day, thermometers will show from -11 degrees in the northeast, around -5 in the center, to 2 degrees in the southwest.
Tuesday Weather Alert
On Tuesday, rain, locally freezing, which may cause black ice, will appear in the south. Snow and rain with snow are forecast in the north. The minimum temperature will again be very low in the northeast, reaching -20°C, around -10°C in the center, and approximately -1°C in the southwest. During the day, temperatures will range from -9 degrees in the northeast, around 0 in the center, to 6 in the south.
Wednesday and Thursday Outlook
On Wednesday, rain and rain with snow will occur in many regions, while snow will also fall in the east of the country and in the mountains. At night, temperatures will drop to -10 degrees in the northeast, around -3 in the center, and up to 1 degree in the south. During the day, temperatures will range from -2 degrees in the northeast, around 2 degrees in the center, to 5 degrees in the southwest. On Thursday, rain and rain with snow are forecast, along with snow in the north. The minimum temperature will range from -3 degrees in the north to 1 degree in the south. During the day, thermometers will show from -1 in the north, around 2 in the center, to up to 8 degrees locally in the south of the country.
IMGW Weather Alerts
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management is warning about dangerous winter weather. Residents of northern Poland, particularly Warmia and Mazury and parts of the Pomeranian and Podlaskie voivodeships, must be alert for severe frost. The warnings are in effect until Tuesday, February 10, until 8:00 AM. Ice warnings are in effect for southern Poland, in most areas of the Lesser Poland, Silesian, and Lower Silesian voivodeships. Difficult conditions will persist until Tuesday, February 9, until 8:00 AM.
