Defense Ministry Finalizes Military Pay Raises

Poland’s Defense Ministry has finalized salary increases for professional military personnel, with raises taking effect from January 1, 2026.

Salary Increases by Rank

A draft regulation from the Minister of National Defense has been submitted for public consultation. Upon enactment with backdating to January 1, 2026, basic salaries will increase across all military ranks and groups. Senior officers will receive raises ranging from 290 zł to 660 zł, while junior officers will see increases from 270 zł to 280 zł.

For non-commissioned officers, senior ranks will receive a 250 zł increase, with junior non-commissioned officers gaining between 220 zł and 230 zł. The smallest raise is designated for enlisted personnel, ranging from 200 zł to 210 zł.

Current Pay Scales

Following these adjustments, an enlisted soldier’s basic monthly salary will total 6,500 zł gross. A four-star general serving as Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces will receive 22,610 zł gross in basic pay.

Expert Commentary

Gen. prof. Stanisław Koziej, former head of the National Security Bureau, criticized the minimal 10 zł difference between military ranks as demotivating. He emphasized that significant pay differences between enlisted personnel, non-commissioned officers, and officers are necessary to encourage soldiers to pursue promotions.

Additionally, Koziej noted that such regulations should be developed during the budget year, rather than after the increase amounts have already been determined.
