A solidarity event was held in front of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw on Ukraine’s National Flag Day, August 23rd, as dozens gathered to paint the Ukrainian flag on the asphalt.

Event Details

On Ukraine’s National Flag Day, August 23rd, a solidarity action took place in front of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw. Around 11:00 AM, dozens of people painted the Ukrainian flag on the asphalt near the Belweder Street building.

Significance of the Flag

The event coincided with the observance of Ukraine’s National Flag Day, established in 2004, commemorating the country’s independence. The flag’s blue represents the sky, while the gold symbolizes Ukrainian wheat fields. It embodies the nation’s freedom and resilience.

Protest Participants

The demonstration included activists from the former Committee for the Defense of Democracy faction, such as prominent activist Babcia Kasia, and individuals from opposition circles against conservative groups.

Protest Actions

Participants used blue and gold paint to create a large Ukrainian flag on the street surface. They carried banners reading “Solidarity with Ukraine” and posters featuring a crossed-out image of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Police Response and Traffic Disruption

Police intervened at the scene. Traffic in the area is currently restricted as authorities work to remove the paint from the asphalt.

Traffic Adjustments

Due to the blocked Belweder Street segment (between Bagatela and Spacerowa/Gagarina streets), trams 116, 166, 180, and 503 have been rerouted. Some bus stops are temporarily suspended.
