Poland’s tax authority prepares automatic PIT returns, but taxpayers may miss valuable deductions if they don’t verify before accepting.
What is Your e-PIT and Who Is It For?
Your e-PIT is a service available in the e-Tax Office portal, within which the National Tax Administration (KAS) prepares a preliminary tax return for the taxpayer. The form is created automatically based on data transmitted to the tax authority by employers, ZUS and other payers, mainly from PIT-11, PIT-40A or PIT-11A information.
Automatic PIT Approval for 2025: Why It Can Be a Trap
Taxpayers can file their 2025 PIT return from February 15 to April 30, 2026. Throughout this period, they have full access to their e-PITs and can freely edit the automatically filled-in data. If they take no action after April 30, 2026, the return will be automatically filed as-is.
What Tax Deductions Do You Lose with Automatic PIT?
The automatic PIT only includes data that is already in the tax office systems – it does not include possible tax deductions or preferential ways of declaring income. The most common losses concern various tax benefits that taxpayers may be eligible for but haven’t claimed through the automatic system.
In practice, this means the taxpayer loses money that could have been returned to their account, remaining in the state budget instead.
When Is Your e-PIT Not Enough? Business Activities and Foreign Income
Although Your e-PIT works in simple cases, it is worth being aware that it does not replace a full declaration in the case of more complex income. Caution should be exercised especially by taxpayers who run business activities or have foreign income.
In such situations, the system may require manual data entry or may not automatically approve the declaration at all. Lack of action can result not only in delays but also in interest and tax penalties.
2026 Filing Deadlines: When to File for a Quick Refund
Tax experts agree: the best time to file a 2025 PIT return is shortly after February 15, 2026. From this date, the 45-day deadline for refund of overpayment begins.
Access to Your e-PIT is possible through the podatki.gov.pl portal as part of e-Tax Office. After logging in, it is enough to go to the “Your e-PIT” tab, where the prepared declarations will be displayed.
