Polish MPs saw their salaries, allowances, and benefits increase on January 1st, with new rates now in effect.
Salary and Allowance Increases
On January 1st, changes took effect related to increasing the so-called base amount in the budget law, which affects MPs’ benefits. Their salaries are currently 13.9 thousand zł brutto, and allowances are 4.3 thousand zł. Last year, these amounts were 13.5 thousand zł and 4.2 thousand zł respectively.
Higher Housing Allowance in Warsaw
Rzeczpospolita established that the Sejm Presidium, Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and Head of the Chancellery of the Sejm Marek Siwiec issued regulations regarding further raises. One concerns the rental allowance for apartments in Warsaw for MPs who do not own residence in the capital. Its amount was raised by 200 zł, now totaling 4.7 thousand zł monthly.
Office and Hotel Allowance Adjustments
The office allowance for MPs was also increased, now standing at 25 thousand zł monthly—1.7 thousand zł more than in 2023. The annual hotel allowance for MPs was also raised to 10 thousand zł, up from 7.6 thousand zł previously.
Committee to Review MP Compensation
Some MPs believe that despite recent raises, their benefits remain too low. This matter will be addressed by the Sejm Committee on Rules, Parliamentary Affairs and Immunity. At the request of MP Elżbieta Gelert from the Civic Coalition, a point was added to the committee’s March work plan: “Information from the Head of the Chancellery of the Sejm on the system of remuneration for MPs in Poland in comparison with solutions adopted in EU countries and other European countries.”
