Macierewicz Loses Patience After Journalist Accuses Him of Lying

Polish MP Antoni Macierewicz clashed with journalists in the Sejm when questioned about Poland’s inclusion in a US-led Peace Council alongside Russia.

Exchange in the Sejm

During questioning in the Polish parliament on February 10, journalists asked Antoni Macierewicz about Poland’s invitation to the US-led Peace Council, noting that Russia had also been invited. Macierewicz stated he did not approve of the international system that includes countries like Russia and China, adding “you support them” to journalists. When Radomir Wit from TVN24 asked “how much can you lie?”, Macierewicz responded by accusing the journalist’s formation of lying more.

Formation of the Peace Council in Davos

On January 22, during the Economic Forum in Davos, the Peace Council was founded. The founding document was signed by US President Donald Trump, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Argentine President Javier Milei, and representatives from Bahrain, Morocco, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. Initially, the Council will focus on the administration and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the war, but its mandate will be expanded to other issues traditionally handled by the UN.

Poland’s Invitation and National Security Council Meeting

Poland’s invitation to the Peace Council is scheduled to be discussed at a National Security Council meeting convened by President Karol Nawrocki for February 11. The other two topics for the meeting are a loan taken by the government for the SAFE Program and “actions taken by state authorities to clarify all circumstances of eastern contacts by the Marshal of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty”. Czarzasty stated he would not be intimidated and called on the president to address issues affecting Polish citizens.

Special Services Statement

The coordinator of special services, Jacek Dobrzyński, issued a statement emphasizing that the Marshal of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, has access to information with the highest classification level. He assured that “special services have no reservations in this matter and absolutely comply with the applicable regulations.”
