Incident Occurred Around 3:00 AM on Saturday Night

A fire erupted in a single-family home located on Górny Podmur Street in Gniew, Pomeranian Voivodeship, around 3:00 AM on Saturday night (August 23 to 24). State and volunteer fire units were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Victim Details Confirmed

The victims were a 24-year-old woman and her 11-month-old child. During rescue operations, one person was evacuated from the building, while two others were presumed still inside. However, no signs of life were found for the woman and the child, despite resuscitation efforts.

Fire Successfully Extinguished

The building fire has been fully controlled and extinguished, reported Captain Michał Myrda of the State Fire Service in Tczew. Nine fire units, three medical rescue teams, and police participated in the operation. The prosecutor’s office is overseeing the investigation into the incident’s circumstances and causes.
