Trump Conveys Independence Day Greetings to Ukraine

Donald Trump sent greetings to Ukraine on its Independence Day, expressing admiration for the bravery of the Ukrainian people and emphasizing U.S. commitment to supporting a free and sovereign Ukraine. “On behalf of the American nation, I send my best wishes to you and the courageous Ukrainian people,” wrote the U.S. president. He also stated, “The time has come to end the senseless killing,” while highlighting U.S. backing for a peace agreement that ensures Ukraine’s sovereignty and long-term stability. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. for solidarity, saying, “We thank the United States for standing shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. We believe together we can end this war and achieve genuine peace.”

Canadian Prime Minister: Putin Can Be Stopped

U.S. Secretary of State in a message for Ukraine’s Independence Day confirmed the U.S. remains dedicated to Ukraine’s future as an independent state. U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg attended the ceremony in Kyiv, where Zelenskyy awarded him the Order of Merit, First Degree. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who also participated in the event at Sofiyivskaya Square, announced $1 billion (approximately $700 million U.S.) in military support for Ukraine, including drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles. Carney stated, “Putin can be stopped. Russia’s economy is weakening. He is becoming increasingly isolated. As our alliance grows stronger, more determined, and unified, we are better positioned to confront this threat.”

Pope Prays for Suffering Ukrainians

Pope Leon XIV also conveyed Independence Day greetings to Ukraine, expressing solidarity with its people. “With a heart wounded by the violence that devastates your country, I assure the Ukrainian people of my prayers for those suffering from the war, especially the injured,” he wrote. He urged, “May God move the hearts of those in good will to stop the weapons and open a path to peace for the benefit of all.” Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski added, “Never again the Gulag, never again the Holodomor, never again Russification. Glory to Ukraine,” to which Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha responded with gratitude for Polish support.

Norway Announces Air Defense Support

Norway announced on Ukraine’s Independence Day that it would allocate approximately seven billion Norwegian kroner (about $696.12 million U.S.) to fund air defense systems for Ukraine, which will be sourced from Germany. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated that Norway and Germany work closely to support Ukraine in its fight to defend the nation and protect civilians from Russian air strikes.
