Heavy snowfall caused transport paralysis in Gdansk on Friday, February 13.
Transport Paralysis in Gdansk
On Friday morning (February 13), Gdansk turned into a transport paralysis due to intense snowfall and slippery surfaces. Buses couldn’t climb inclines, blocking streets and causing some routes to be changed. Some passengers got off to help push the buses.
The Gdansk Municipal Transport Authority warned that “Friday the thirteenth will be a challenge for us all” with snow and rain expected throughout the day, leading to very slippery conditions and potential delays in bus and tram services.
Passenger Experiences
A Gazeta.pl reader reported that a bus normally traveling from Przymorze to Letnica in 20 minutes took almost an hour. The entire Spacerowa Street from Osowa to Wrzeszcz was blocked. The Kocham Gdańsk Facebook profile described “complete transport paralysis” with streets like glass, comparing them to “a skating rink instead of asphalt.”
Forest District Warning
The Gdansk Forest District reported receiving more signals about breaking branches and recommended postponing walks in the forest, suggesting residents choose other places for recreation during the weekend.
Weather Alerts Issued
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued warnings about heavy snowfall and icing. Forecasters predict freezing of wet road and sidewalk surfaces after rain, sleet, and wet snow. In the northern half of Poland, subzero temperatures will persist for the next 4-6 days.
