US Ambassador’s AI Video Sparks Criticism

US Ambassador Tom Rose posted an AI-generated video celebrating Poland-US ties, drawing criticism over the use of digital content in diplomacy.

Ambassador’s AI Video

US Ambassador Tom Rose published a video generated by artificial intelligence on Friday. It depicts large Polish-American flags, US President Donald Trump, and soldiers at Kościuszko Mound in Kraków, with fireworks in the background. One scene shows Trump shaking hands with President Karol Nawrocki, accompanied by a child’s voice singing the US national anthem. The recording aligns with the “USA 250” theme, marking the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence. “Poland – America’s first and oldest ally!!! That’s why President Trump LOVES Poland,” Rose wrote.

Criticisms from Polish Figures

Former Polish Ambassador to Israel and the US, Marek Magierowski, commented: “I appreciate the gesture, but I’m not hiding my mixed feelings. If Claudia Sheinbaum [Mexico’s president – ed.] celebrated independence with an AI video showing a Mexican flag next to an American one on a Washington obelisk and red-white fireworks, I would be curious about the reaction in the US.” Anna-Maria Żukowska, head of the Left parliamentary club, stated: “It would be truly good if Polish-American relations were based on honesty and truth, not fiction. We do not live in a fictional AI.” MP Daria Gosek-Popiołek compared Rose’s video to actual photos from the 250th independence anniversary celebrations held Thursday at Kościuszko Mound.

RMF FM correspondent in the US, Paweł Żuchowski, remarked: “Personally, I would rather see a real US president speaking at Kościuszko Mound than a digital version, as real events most strongly strengthen the credibility and trust on which our partnership is based. Such materials, though likely created with good intentions, do not build trust and may become subjects of online jokes rather than serious dialogue. The Polish-American alliance is real; it does not need to be created in AI.” Journalist Jacek Nizinkiewicz of “Rzeczpospolita” retorted: “The Kraków mayor organized such an event, and ingrates want to recall him?!” referencing the signature collection for a referendum on recalling Kraków Mayor Aleksander Miszałski. Blogger Radosław Karbowski quipped: “21st-century diplomacy – instead of coming to Poland, grab an AI video for 5 bucks and enjoy it.”

Context of Earlier Dispute

In early February, Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced he would not support a motion granting the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump, citing destabilization of the EU, NATO, UN, and WHO, and “policy of force and transactionalism.” Rose responded by announcing the severing of relations with Czarzasty. When a user suggested Rose return to the US, the ambassador asked if he should take American soldiers’ equipment with him.
