Trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the US commence in Geneva as Trump urges Ukraine to quickly reach agreement with Russia.
Trilateral Talks Begin in Geneva
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Geneva will host another round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States regarding a peace plan for Ukraine. Details of the negotiations remain unknown, though points of contention still exist, primarily concerning eastern territories. The talks will last two days.
Ukraine’s delegation is headed by the head of the Security Council, Rustem Umierow. “We expect constructive engagement and substantive meetings on security and humanitarian issues to move toward a dignified and lasting peace,” he stated on platform X. The Russian delegation is led by Putin’s advisor Vladimir Medinsky. The US delegation consists of Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Trump’s Position on Ukrainian Peace
“Well, we’re conducting important talks,” commented US President Donald Trump to reporters aboard Air Force One. He emphasized that Ukrainians should quickly reach an agreement with Russians. “Ukraine should start talks as soon as possible. That’s all I have to say,” he added.
Zelenskyy: Aggressor Must Be Forced to Peace
“Russia cannot resist the temptation of recent winter cold and wants to inflict heavy blows on Ukrainians. The more evil comes from Russia, the more difficult it will be to reach any agreement with it. Partners must understand this. This primarily concerns the United States,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday evening.
“We have agreed to all realistic proposals from the United States, starting with the proposal for unconditional and long-term ceasefire. Russia rejects them and continues attacks on the front and our cities and energy infrastructure. We expect partners to take action to ensure that forcing the aggressor to peace actually works,” he added.
Latest Attacks on Ukraine
On Monday night to Tuesday, Russians attacked Ukraine with 29 rockets and nearly 400 drones, hitting western regions among others. Some missiles reached their targets. Air raid sirens were heard in all Ukrainian oblasts. Although most rockets and drones were intercepted, some struck thermal power plants and other energy infrastructure facilities. Damage occurred in 13 locations, including Odesa, Dnipro, and the city of Burshtyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where a large thermal power plant is located. There are reports of injuries. In response, Ukrainians attacked Russian refineries in Krasnodar Krai with their drones.
