Three-Way Talks Begin in Geneva as Zelensky Seeks Meeting with Putin

Peace talks commence in Geneva with Ukraine proposing a three-way summit as territorial disputes remain the main point of contention.

Three-Way Peace Talks Commence in Geneva

Peace talks have begun in Switzerland aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian negotiating team plans to propose organizing a meeting at the leader level of three nations, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky Seeks Personal Meeting with Putin

In an interview with Axios, Zelensky stated that the best way to achieve a breakthrough on territorial issues is a personal meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Territorial Disputes Remain Main Contention

Territorial issues are the primary point of disagreement. The United States has proposed that Ukrainian military forces withdraw from parts of Donbas they currently control and allow the area to become a demilitarized “free economic zone.”

Ukraine’s Conditional Agreement

Ukraine is willing to take this step, but only if Russia withdraws its forces by an equivalent distance. Ukrainians do not expect Russians to be inclined to compromise. Before Wednesday’s negotiations in Geneva, the head of the Ukrainian delegation stated that his team would work constructively but without unreasonable expectations.
