Pełczyńska-Nałęcz: “They Couldn’t Bear Defeat, So They Deserted”

New Poland 2050 leader Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz criticized departing members for deserting the party after they couldn’t accept election defeat.

New Party Direction

In a press conference on Wednesday (February 18), the new head of Poland 2050 stated that the party’s current goal is to move forward for voters. She emphasized, “We already know that we will operate as this team that we are.”

Pełczyńska-Nałęcz also stated that Poland 2050 is “for causes, not for seats.”

Departing Members’ Reactions

The politician addressed those who left Poland 2050, stating they could not accept defeat. “Everyone during the elections declared that they would recognize the result. Unfortunately, they could not bear it, they could not bear their own defeat. Those who lost deserted,” she said, adding that it was “sad and disappointing.”

When asked if she felt responsible for the split in Poland 2050, she replied, “It takes two for that.”

Previous Leadership Comments

Former party leader Szymon Hołownia had stated that the split was caused by hatred toward Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz.

Coalition Meeting Issues

Journalist Marta Rawicz from Gazeta.pl asked during the press conference if anything was known about a coalition meeting that was supposed to take place last week. “The meeting really didn’t happen, for objective reasons. I believe it should take place as soon as possible. I have been a proponent of talking within the coalition for a long time,” Pełczyńska-Nałęcz replied.

Party Split and New Formation

On Wednesday, another group of Poland 2050 MPs left the party. The establishment of their own club called “Centrum” was also announced. The group includes Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska, as well as Aleksandra Leo and Ryszard Petru.

Hennig-Kloska announced that the new club will remain in the governing coalition.
