A nun from the Order of the Passionists of St. Paul the Apostle disappeared suddenly on Tuesday, August 19, but was found two days later after issuing a warning to others.
The Disappearance and Recovery of Sister Dorothy
Sister Dorothy from the Order of the Passionists of St. Paul the Apostle went missing abruptly on Tuesday, August 19. Last week, the Mother Provincial of the Częstochowa Dominican Sisters reported that Sister Janiszewska “received a call from someone claiming to be a police officer.” “After a long conversation, clearly agitated, she left the convent in Kutno, saying she had to leave urgently,” the text states. The sisters ruled out the possibility that she fled on her own, emphasizing her decades-long dedication to educating women and supporting victims of human trafficking and prostitution. “Her work is filled with devotion and courage, reaching out to those living in the shadow of violence, exploitation, and fear,” the Mother Provincial noted. The nun was located on Thursday after two days.
“Be Vigilant”
On Friday, Sister Dorothy published a video addressing the incident. “Working with victims of crime, I never thought I would become one of them. Yet, this happened. For nearly three days, I was under the influence of people, convinced I was acting for the good, that I was in constant contact with the police. However, they turned out to be criminals and scammers,” the nun stated. She added, “This situation shows that anyone can be a victim, regardless of awareness or knowledge.” “Be vigilant, don’t be deceived, pay attention to all signals, and verify everything,” she urged.
“She Made Additional Transfers”
According to Mateusz Piliński, a junior police cadet from the Łódź Voivodeship Police Headquarters, the scammer “convinced the nun that the funds she had access to, stored in her account, were at risk and needed to be quickly transferred to other accounts.” “She believed the man and followed his instructions, visiting multiple banks and making repeated transfers,” Piliński said. The woman lost hundreds of thousands of zlotys.
