Former Prince Andrew arrested and questioned for 12 hours as police investigation continues into public office abuse allegations.
Police Searches Continue
Police confirmed that searches at former Prince Andrew’s current home in Sandringham have concluded, but officers are still active at his former residence in Windsor.
On Thursday (February 19), the younger brother of King Charles III was arrested and interrogated, spending a total of 12 hours at the Aylsham police station in Norfolk. Police emphasize that the investigation is ongoing, and the former prince can be summoned for questioning again at any time.
Government Begins Document Review
Following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on charges of public office abuse, the British government’s press office announced that officials from Downing Street 10 have begun searching state documents related to his activities as a trade envoy.
Officials are focusing on correspondence from 2010-2011, including reports from trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, which were covered by official secrecy, as well as correspondence with the palace. All evidence related to the charges against the former prince is to be handed over to police.
King Charles III Assures Cooperation
Specialists in the British monarchy believe that the arrest of former Prince Andrew could have serious consequences for the British royal family and the institution of monarchy itself.
Deprived of titles and privileges, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has not held official functions for a long time, but his long-standing presence in royal structures means the case automatically reflects on the image of the entire Windsor family. King Charles III assured that the palace will fully cooperate with police.
Public Reaction Outside Buckingham Palace
Meanwhile, tourists, capital residents, and dozens of television crews from around the world are gathering outside Buckingham Palace following reports of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest.
This is the first case in modern history where such a high-ranking royal family member has been detained by law enforcement. Some present people did not hide their surprise and anger, with one woman describing it as “humiliating” for the country and stating that “he deserved punishment.”
