Polish social security agency ZUS will disburse monthly disability support to eligible individuals, including diabetics, with amounts reaching 4,353 zł from next March.
Benefit Amounts
From March 1, 2026, the maximum monthly support will be 4,353 zł, equal to 220% of the social pension. The social pension, after a 5.3% adjustment announced by the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy, will rise to 1,978.49 zł. The support amount directly correlates with the social pension percentage an individual qualifies for.
Support tiers range from 792 zł (minimum) to 4,353 zł (maximum), with differing levels based on assessed support needs.
Eligibility Criteria
Support is granted to individuals with disabilities assessed by the Provincial Team for Assessing Disability (WZON) to require 70 to 100 points. This evaluation is distinct from a standard disability determination and focuses solely on the level of independence needed, not the diagnosis alone.
For diabetic patients, qualification depends on how the disease impacts daily functioning, such as severe complications, inability to self-manage insulin, or frequent hospitalizations. Well-controlled diabetes without significant complications rarely qualifies for the highest points unless compounded by other limiting conditions.
Application Process
Receiving high points does not automatically trigger payments. Two mandatory steps are required: obtaining a WZON assessment and formally submitting an application. A standard disability certificate alone is insufficient.
Policy Changes in 2026
A review of support regulations is underway by the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy, focusing on assessment criteria and payment durations. Currently, support is limited to a maximum of 7 years, even for longer-term disability assessments—a point raised by disability advocacy groups. Existing rules remain in effect for now.
