Foreign Nationals’ Collision Blocks Trams at Warsaw Intersection

Two foreign nationals collided at a Warsaw intersection Sunday, blocking tram traffic for an hour before police resolved the situation.

Collision Details

A collision between a Toyota used for ride-sharing and a BMW at the intersection of Grójecka and Korotyński streets blocked tram tracks in both directions on Sunday, February 22 at 17:10. The incident occurred when the Toyota driver, an Indian citizen, became stuck at the intersection during a traffic light change. At the same time, a Ukrainian citizen driving a BMW entered the intersection on a green light from the direction of Raszyn, colliding with the Toyota as it attempted to leave the intersection.

Emergency Response

Emergency services, including the fire department, two medical rescue teams, and police, were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters secured the area and damaged vehicles while paramedics examined the collision participants. No injuries were reported, eliminating the need for hospital transport. After medical examinations concluded, firefighters began removing the BMW from the tram tracks, allowing Warsaw Tram services to continue their work.

Legal Consequences

Police fined the Toyota driver, an Indian citizen identified as the at-fault party in the collision. Additionally, the Ukrainian driving the BMW was also penalized after it was determined he did not possess a valid driver’s license. Tram traffic was restored around 18:00, approximately one hour after the incident occurred.

Transport Disruptions

As reported by Warsaw Tramways (WTP), tram lines 1, 9, and 15 traveling toward P+R Al.Krakowska were shortened to terminate at PL.Narutowicza due to the blocked intersection. Replacement bus service was implemented on the route from Pl.Narutowicza 02 via Grójecka and Al.Krakowska to P+R Al.Krakowska.
