Zelenski in EU Parliament: Europe Must Remain Solidar With Ukraine

Ukrainian President Zelenski addressed the European Parliament on the 4th anniversary of Russia’s invasion, urging continued European solidarity.

Russian Threat Unabated

Ukrainian President Zelenski stated that the threat from Russia has not diminished, with the Kremlin consistently choosing military solutions. “Putin does not accept the fact that others want to live a different life. That’s why he uses force,” Zelenski said, recalling Russia’s previous actions in Chechnya, Georgia, and Syria, as well as its support for Iran.

“Russia is able to accept any number of victims,” Zelenski emphasized, noting that Europe cannot look away. “We must all protect each other from Russia through sanctions and mutual support after Russia attacks someone,” he added.

No Security Guarantees

Zelenski directly addressed the lack of firm security guarantees for Ukraine in his speech. “The threat has not decreased at all. We have no security guarantees, and only arm in arm can we achieve our goals in Europe,” he said.

He noted that maintaining transatlantic unity under current conditions is not easy but necessary, pointing to the need for further financial support for Ukraine. He mentioned the decision on 90 billion euros in aid over two years as a real security guarantee.

“We cannot allow Russia to extend its aggression against Ukraine to military actions against other European countries,” Zelenski warned.

Clear EU Membership Timeline

A key theme of Zelenski’s address was Ukraine’s membership in the EU. “It is important for us to have a clear date for joining the European Union. This is part of the current diplomatic process aimed at ending the war,” he said.

Zelenski clarified that this is not an “empty wish” but part of a real strategy against Russia. He believes the Kremlin will try to divide and weaken the unity of the European Union.

Standing Ovation

At the conclusion of his speech, Zelenski thanked European countries for their support, including assistance in expanding air defense systems and creating coalitions supporting Ukraine.

“We cannot allow Putin to win. Thank you for all these years,” he said. Following these words, a long standing ovation erupted in the European Parliament.
