Poland expands benefits for large families through its Large Family Card program, with new 2026 provisions doubling unemployment benefit durations for card holders.
What is the Large Family Card (KDR)?
The Large Family Card (KDR) is a national program of discounts and reduced prices in public institutions and commercial partners, operating since June 16, 2014. The KDR can be used not only by Polish citizens but also by certain groups of foreigners legally residing in Poland.
The Large Family Card is available to large families raising or who have raised at least 3 children, regardless of their current age. Since January 1, 2019, access to the Large Family Card has been extended to additional groups.
Validity Period
The regulations specify the validity period of the KDR. In practice, this means that certain groups of cardholders have a limited time to use it. Until when can you use the Large Family Card?
Who is Not Eligible
Not every parent of three children has the opportunity to obtain the Large Family Card. This entitlement does not include certain groups.
2026 Benefits and Changes
The Large Family Card is a country-wide program of discounts and rebates whose scope is systematically expanding. Card holders can benefit from various discounts, including services provided by partner institutions.
Revolution in employment offices. Additional support for KDR holders in 2026. Large Family Card holders can count not only on discounts but also on priority access to various services – for example, to vocational counseling. Another privilege of KDR owners is the ability to use various forms of support from county job centers.
Unemployment benefit 2026: KDR holders will receive money for twice as long. From 2026, large families holding the Large Family Card will gain additional rights in job centers. The changes mainly concern the period for receiving unemployment benefits. What do they mean in practice?
As a rule, the benefit can be collected for 180 days. However, persons holding the Large Family Card can receive the allowance for up to 365 days, that is, for a full year.
How to Obtain the Large Family Card
There are two paths for submitting a KDR application. It can be submitted: online and at the relevant office.
The card is available in two versions: plastic and electronic. What should you remember? The KDR is available in the mObywatel app. It’s enough to add it there by selecting the “Add document” option and then checking the Large Family Card on the list.
Large Family Card holders can acquire it in the traditional version. The cost of issuing it is 10 złoty.
