Crash Details
The accident occurred when Mateusz A., driving a Volkswagen Passat, attempted to overtake an Ursus 1224 tractor pulling heavy plows on a trailer. The tractor began a left turn onto a field access road while being overtaken, failing to exercise special caution and not ensuring it was safe to move into the left lane.
Prosecutors determined both vehicles were technically roadworthy at the time. However, the plows and weights obscured the tractor’s rear lights, and the trailer and plows had no lighting. Additionally, the tractor’s left turn signal bulb was not working, making the maneuver’s intent unclear and untimely signaled.
An autopsy confirmed the 6-year-old passenger, Maria A., died from extensive head injuries. The investigation included scene inspections, securing evidence, vehicle examinations, and witness statements.
