Poland’s ruling PiS party faces internal tensions as Morawiecki challenges Jaki’s statements about EU borrowing and governance.
Jaki Addresses Student Concerns About EU Debt
During a student meeting in Lublin on February 25, Patryk Jaki, a PiS MEP and vice president, discussed Poland’s National Reconstruction Plan and EU defense support programs. A participant questioned whether PiS would return to indebting Poland and making the country dependent on the EU if they regain power.
Jaki Expresses Optimism About Party’s Future
Jaki stated that most PiS politicians have learned from past mistakes and would act differently if they return to power. He cited the SAFE defense program as evidence of a tougher stance, saying, “I was afraid how our party would behave, but now I’m encouraged.”
Morawiecki Responds to Jaki’s Criticism
Mateusz Morawiecki responded to Jaki via X, challenging him: “Patryk, since you’re now an expert and know the remedy for every problem, tell me: how did your flagship judicial reform go? And how did your IPN law serve Poland?” He criticized what he called “easy criticism from the stands of sneering critics.”
Kaczyński Warns Against Public Disputes
Party leader Jarosław Kaczyński acknowledged that media disputes between PiS politicians are harmful, especially during the critical pre-election period. He stated that some public appearances are “extremely harmful” to the party.
