Warsaw Tram Incident: Damaged Window at Wilenski Station Under Investigation

Incident Details

On Friday, February 27, an incident occurred involving tram line 13 in the area of Wilenski Station on Praga-Północ, where a window in the front part of the vehicle was damaged. Services are examining the cause of the damage. During police actions, there were disruptions to tram traffic on Solidarności Avenue at Targowa Street.

Report of the tram damage was received by police at 17:53. According to Rafał Markiewicz from the Metropolitan Police Command, the motorman was at a red light on Solidarności Avenue at Targowa Street when he suddenly heard a bang. Shortly after, he noticed the damaged window – on the front part of the tram, on the right side.

Passenger Safety and Investigation

At the time of the incident, there were passengers on the tram, but according to service and operator information, no one was injured. The tram was not moving, only standing at a red light. Warsaw Trams spokesperson Witold Urbanowicz informed that police were at the scene, and the operator was securing monitoring footage. He noted that it is too early at this stage to determine the details and definitive cause of the damage.

A preliminary variant being considered is damage from the outside, possibly using an air rifle. However, the police emphasize that they are investigating all circumstances of the incident.

Traffic Impact and Resolution

Following the incident, tram lines 13 and 26 were rerouted via the Ratuszowa tram loop. Around 19:35, tram traffic in the area was resumed, and the damaged tram was taken to the depot.
