A five-person fatality accident occurred on the S2 route at the Konotopa junction. The regional prosecutor’s office is overseeing the investigation against a suspect from Lithuania, who claims he believed the ban on operating mechanical vehicles had expired.
Investigation Details
The regional prosecutor’s office in Pruszkow is supervising the investigation against Aleksander S., a citizen of Lithuania, accused of causing the accident. The suspect has not admitted to the alleged actions, stating he believed the driving ban had already lapsed. Following an appeal by the Pruszkow District Court’s II Criminal Department on May 16, 2025 (case number II Kp 333/25), the Warsaw District Court’s X Criminal Appeal Department modified the decision on June 3, 2025 (case number X Kz 553/25), by overturning the application of a property security measure. Later, on July 9, 2025, the Warsaw District Court’s VIII Criminal Department extended the temporary detention of the suspect for an additional three months, until October 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Expert Opinions
Expert opinions from traffic reconstruction specialists and a vehicle technical inspection of the Mercedes Sprinter entered the case files. These opinions indicate no pre-accident malfunctions in the vehicle’s critical systems that could have influenced the incident. The direct cause was identified as driving on a collision course with a stationary vehicle group and failure to perform effective evasive maneuvers. No evidence of excessive speed was found.
Further Forensic Analysis
Medical records from the hospital treatment of two injured victims are pending. Once obtained, a forensic medicine expert will be appointed. Additionally, blood physico-chemical analysis reports and forensic medical opinions on the victims’ autopsies have not yet been submitted to the case files.
