Starting Monday, March 2nd, the Poniatowski Bridge viaduct will undergo renovation, narrowing lanes and closing sidewalks.
Renovation Details
On Monday, March 2nd, the next stage of the Poniatowski Bridge viaduct renovation will begin. The work will last until May. If spring turns out to be very rainy, it will prevent painting of metal elements and the deadline may be extended.
In the next stage of the renovation of the over-century-old Poniatowski Bridge viaduct, workers will dismantle, renovate, and reinstall fragments of the railing. They will protect the railing base against rust and repair the sidewalks over Wisłostrada.
Closed Sidewalk
Workers will close the sidewalk along the road leading to Saska Kępa. Pedestrians will cross to the other side of the bridge on Solec Street and Wisłostrada. Information boards will be installed at de Gaulle and Washington roundabouts.
Meanwhile, towards de Gaulle Roundabout, pedestrians will walk along the cordoned-off road lane toward the center. Tram stops and the sidewalk from the National Museum to Solec Street remain closed.
Narrower Lane
The lane toward the center, after the exit to Wisłostrada, will be narrowed to one lane for a short section: drivers will go straight on the left, and the right will only be for turning. Pedestrians will walk along the cordoned-off right lane.
Information boards will recommend detours via Świętokrzyski or Łazienkowski bridges.
About the Renovation
Concrete and stone elements as well as the retaining walls of the viaduct are being renovated. Steel elements are being protected against corrosion. The passage under the bridge, which connects two tram stops, is also being renovated.
Thanks to the renovation, the passage under the bridge will be more beautiful and safer.
