Arrested PiS Politician Allegedly Had Over 2 Promille Alcohol Level; May Lose More Than Just Driving License

Police Launch Investigation Following Vehicle Collision

Lębork police responded to a traffic collision report on Saturday (August 23) around 9 p.m., stating that a driver of a car struck a parked Seat and fled the scene. Officers immediately initiated actions to identify the driver, locating the vehicle and its operator on one of the city’s streets. The driver was confirmed to be a 43-year-old resident of Lębork, with a breathalyzer test revealing an alcohol level exceeding 2 promille (0.2%). The man was detained.

The Driver Identified as a PiS Politician

According to Radio Gdańsk, the detained driver is Mariusz Brodalski, a local PiS activist and vice-chair of the Lębork County Council. Brodalski addressed the incident in a conversation with the station, apologizing for the situation and stating he would submit personal details to the appropriate authorities. He also announced his resignation as vice-chair of the county council pending further clarification.

PiS Spokesperson Comments on the Incident

Mateusz Kurzajewski, PiS spokesperson, told Onet that Brodalski had already resigned from his role as vice-chair of the provincial legislature’s club. A meeting at the local party council level will be held to address the matter, with a decision expected within the next few days. Kurzajewski also hinted that Brodalski’s expulsion from the party could be considered.

Driving under the influence and causing a collision may result in up to three years of imprisonment, a loss of driving privileges for at least three years, and the confiscation of the vehicle or its equivalent value. Brodalski’s case will be sent to court. If found guilty, the politician could lose his councilor’s mandate. Tomasz Litwin, the mayor of Lębork, emphasized that public figures must exemplify legal compliance, stating Brodalski “violated the law, knows it, and will face the consequences” in an interview with *Dziennik Bałtycki*.
