Woman Loses 20,000 Zloty to Romance Scam from Drilling Platform

A 67-year-old Piaseczno woman lost over 20,000 zloty after falling victim to a romance scam involving a man claiming to work abroad.

The Scam Begins

An online friendship, daily message exchanges, promises of a shared future – this is how the story of a 67-year-old resident of Piaseczno County began. She fell victim to a scam and lost over 20,000 zloty. Last week, the woman reported to the Piaseczno County Police Headquarters about an online relationship she maintained for about three months with a man she met through a messaging app.

Building Trust

The man presented himself as an active professional working abroad. The relationship was intense – daily messages, photos, assurances of feelings, and plans to visit Poland. The contact seemed credible and raised no suspicions for the victim.

Financial Requests

The man gained the 67-year-old woman’s trust through his declarations of affection and plans for a shared future. After some time, requests for financial support related to a difficult life situation appeared. Believing in the sincerity of her correspondent, the victim transferred money to him.

Raising Suspicion

When the demands started to involve significantly higher amounts, she became suspicious and decided to report the matter to the police.

A Warning to All

This story serves as a warning to everyone. Scammers operating online expertly manipulate emotions. They build relationships, gain trust, declare feelings, and make future plans. They exploit loneliness, empathy, and the desire to help.

Safety Advice

We urge caution and vigilance: Remember that scammers have no scruples. Every request for money from someone met exclusively online should arouse our suspicion. Only caution, distance, and common sense can protect you from losing your savings. If you suspect you may be dealing with a scam – don’t hesitate. Contact the police.
