Tusk Wins Overwhelmingly in Civic Coalition Leadership Vote

On March 8, Civic Coalition members elected Donald Tusk as party chairman with 97% of the vote in the first internal elections since the coalition’s formation in October 2025.

Civic Coalition Holds First Leadership Elections

On Sunday (March 8), members of the Civic Coalition elected leaders of county and regional structures, as well as the party chairman. The elections were conducted traditionally using ballot boxes in the county and regional offices of KO. These are the first elections held in the Civic Coalition, which was formed in October 2025 from the merger of the Civic Platform, Nowoczesna, and Polish Initiative.

Tusk Secures 97% Vote for Party Leadership

78% of eligible voters participated in the elections, with more than 16,000 votes cast. Donald Tusk ran unopposed for the position of party chairman and received 97% of the votes, with 379 people voting against his candidacy. “We are united, strong, positive” – noted Donald Tusk on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

Regional Leadership Contests and Protests

Leaders were also elected in 16 voivodeships (provinces). In Lower Silesia, incumbent chairman Michał Jaros won against the Vice-Marshal of the Sejm Monika Wielichowska by just a few votes. Wielichowska announced she would file an election protest, believing the secrecy of the vote was not ensured. A protest will also be filed in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, where MP Paweł Kowal won against MP Joanna Frydrych. Candidates have three days to file an election protest, and their consideration may take about a week.

New Chairmen in Five Voivodeships

A change of heads of local structures occurred in five voivodeships. New chairmen will be in the Lublin, Lubusz, Opole, Subcarpathian, and Greater Poland voivodeships.
