Drone Strikes Target Iraqi Oil Fields; Madjun Site Hit Again

Two drones struck Iraqi oil fields, including the Madjun field, marking the second attack on the site in four days, according to Iraqi officials.

Oil Field Attacks in Iraq

Two drones targeted Iraqi oil fields, specifically the Madjun field located in southern Iraq, on Monday, as reported by AFP citing Iraqi security officials and the Ministry of Oil.

This attack follows a previous strike on the Madjun oil field on Friday. The facility had already been shut down due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Damage Assessment

Saheb Bazun, a spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, stated that the Madjun field was attacked by two drones, with one impacting a telecommunications tower. He confirmed that the attack caused no damage.

Targeting of US Firm Offices

A security official, who remained unnamed, reported that the second drone targeted the offices of a U.S. company operating at the oil field.

Madjun Oil Field Significance

Madjun is one of the world’s largest oil fields, with estimated reserves exceeding 38 billion barrels.

Regional Escalation

The attacks occur following the commencement of Israeli and U.S. airstrikes on Iran on February 28th. In response, Tehran initiated retaliatory attacks against Israel and several Gulf countries, targeting both U.S. bases and civilian infrastructure. (PAP)
