Nearly 9.1% of Polish companies are listed in the National Debt Register, with significant regional variations in indebtedness levels, according to a new report.
Regional Debt Levels
In Poland, 9.08% of firms have outstanding debts registered in the National Debt Register (KRD), but the scale varies significantly by region, according to the Entrepreneur Reliability Index prepared by KRD and the Reliable Firm program.
The highest percentage of indebted firms is in Silesia, while the lowest is in Subcarpathia.
Silesia and Subcarpathia Lead and Lag
The highest percentage of companies with arrears was recorded in Silesian Voivodeship, at 10.74%. The lowest level is in Subcarpathia – 6.49%. Regions with relatively low proportions of indebted enterprises also include Lesser Poland (6.74%), Podlasie (6.97%), and Świętokrzyskie (7.15%).

Payment Delays: An Expert Commentary
“The risk of payment delays in settlements between companies in Poland has a clear regional dimension. For companies operating outside their local market, this is an important indication, as the same cooperation conditions in different parts of the country may prove insufficient. It is worth taking this into account when setting payment terms or the amount of trade credit,” said KRD President Adam Łącki in a statement.
Average Corporate Debt
The reliability index also takes into account the average debt value per debtor. It is highest in the Masovian Voivodeship, at around 50,000 PLN. High values were also recorded in Świętokrzyskie (approx. 46.6 thousand PLN), Wielkopolska (approx. 45.3 thousand PLN), Subcarpathia (approx. 44.3 thousand PLN), and Lesser Poland (approx. 44.2 thousand PLN).
The lowest average debt is in West Pomerania – about 37.6 thousand PLN.
Debt Levels per 1000 Active Firms
The report also highlights debt levels per 1000 active firms. The highest values were recorded in voivodeships with a large scale of economic activity, such as Masovian (approx. 4.8 million PLN per 1000 firms) and Silesian (approx. 4.7 million PLN). Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomeranian, and Lower Silesian also rank highly (approx. 4.2 million PLN each).
The lowest values are in Podlasie (approx. 2.7 million PLN), Subcarpathia (approx. 2.9 million PLN), and Lesser Poland (approx. 3 million PLN).
Entrepreneur Reliability Ranking
In the latest ranking, Podlasie Voivodeship received the highest rating, scoring 45 points. Lubelskie (37 points), Opole and Subcarpathia (35 points each), and Lesser Poland (34 points) also ranked highly.
Silesian (9 points) and Masovian (10 points) Voivodeships, as well as Kujawsko-Pomorskie (16 points) and Lower Silesian and Pomeranian (18 points each) were at the bottom of the ranking.
