Councilor Accused of Domestic Abuse, Facing Restraining Order

Lidia B., a councilor in Proszowice, Poland, has been charged with physically and psychologically abusing her husband over five years, and now faces a restraining order.

Charges of Abuse and Assault

In August of last year, Lidia B. was charged with psychological and physical abuse of her husband, as well as causing him bodily harm. The man sustained minor injuries and reported the incidents to authorities, leading to her arrest.

Prosecutor Mariusz Boroń of the Kraków District Prosecutor’s Office stated that the abuse lasted five years and included verbal abuse, pushing, and shoving. During one altercation, she allegedly stabbed him in the thigh with a knife. Lidia B. denied the charges but acknowledged the incident, blaming her husband for what occurred.

Preventive Measures and Arrest

Lidia B. was initially detained for three months in August. On Thursday, March 19th, a court issued a restraining order prohibiting her from contacting her husband and requiring her to leave their home, following a denial of an extension to her temporary arrest.

Political Affiliation and Position

Lidia B. has been a district councilor in Proszowice, Małopolska Province, since 2024, having run on the Law and Justice (PiS) party list and receiving 175 votes—nearly 4.6 percent of the vote. She also chairs one of the committees and serves on the village council in her hometown.

Party representatives in the region clarified that Lidia B. is not a member of PiS but only ran on their list.
