US and Israel Reportedly Strike Iranian Nuclear Complex in Natanz

The Natanz nuclear facility in Iran was reportedly attacked by the US and Israel, a continuation of hostilities dating back to last year and escalating since February 28th.

Natanz Facility Targeted in Renewed Attacks

The Natanz facility was a key target during a 12-day US-Israel conflict with Iran last June and has been attacked again since fighting resumed on February 28th. The consequences of the recent bombing remain unknown.

Located approximately 230 km south of Tehran, Natanz is a central component of Iran’s nuclear program, used for uranium enrichment. It comprises both an extensive underground enrichment facility and a surface-level pilot enrichment installation.

UN Official Contradicts Attack Reports

The attack contradicts statements made three days prior by Rafael Grossi, the head of nuclear oversight for the UN, who indicated “no indications” of impending attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran has previously accused the United States and Israel of conducting airstrikes on the Natanz uranium enrichment center.

Iran Claims Retaliatory Drone Strikes

Iranian media reports that the Iranian army launched drone attacks targeting fuel tanks for aircraft at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel.

Iran’s Nuclear Capabilities

Western nations have long accused Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, allegations Tehran denies, maintaining its program is for peaceful energy purposes. However, Iran has significantly increased uranium enrichment to levels unsuitable for peaceful applications.

The UN estimates Iran possesses around 440 kg of uranium enriched to 60 percent, enough to potentially construct eight to ten nuclear bombs if further enriched to 90 percent.

Israel Signals Intensified Attacks

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced at a press conference that attacks on the Islamic Republic will escalate. He stated that the intensity of attacks by the Israeli and American armies on infrastructure used by Iran will increase significantly this week.

Katz emphasized Israel’s determination to continue attacks on the Iranian regime, eliminating its commanders and neutralizing its strategic potential until any threat to Israel’s security and American interests in the region is eliminated. He affirmed the strength of the Israeli military and internal front, vowing to continue until all war objectives are achieved.
