Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik, a Confederation MEP, has joined the Patriots for Europe group, while remaining a member of the Confederation party.
MEP Joins New Faction, Mentzen Responds
Confederation MEP Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik has confirmed to the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that she does not intend to resign from her membership in Sławomir Mentzen’s New Hope. Despite leaving the European Parliament group to which New Hope MEPs belong, she declares she remains in the Confederation.
She also emphasizes that she was not informed of any exclusion from the party.
Move to Patriots for Europe
On Wednesday, on platform X, Confederation MEP and New Hope activist Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik announced her joining the European Parliament’s Patriots for Europe group. This move means the politician has left the Europe of Sovereign Nations group, which includes Confederation-affiliated MEPs Marcin Sypniewski and Stanisław Tyszka, and joined the group in the EP created by, among others, Anna Bryłka and Tomasz Buczek, who are activists of the other component of the Confederation, the National Movement.
Zajączkowska-Hernik’s Statement
“This is a very important decision for me and a huge step forward. I remain in the Confederation, with which I want to change Poland for the better and within which I will run for the Sejm RP in next year’s parliamentary elections. And now I will continue to fight for Polish affairs in the European Parliament, already within the Patriots group, which is the third force in the European Parliament. I am sure that this will be a strong impulse for the entire Confederation, which will allow me to represent you even better and defend citizens’ interests,” Zajączkowska-Hernik wrote on X.
Mentzen’s Reaction
Sławomir Mentzen, leader of the Confederation and president of New Hope, responded to Zajączkowska-Hernik’s post, thanking the MEP “for over 2 years of cooperation and several joint election campaigns.” “I wish you success with our friends from the Nationalists. We continue to work together in the Confederation for the good of Poland!” Mentzen wrote.
Continued Membership in New Hope
PAP asked Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik whether she would remain a member of Mentzen’s New Hope or also work within the National Movement, led by Sejm Vice-Marshal Krzysztof Bosak. She assured PAP that she had not submitted her resignation from New Hope, does not intend to resign, and was not informed of any exclusion from the party.
She added that “the most important thing is what Sławomir Mentzen wrote.” – “Together we will fight within the Confederation team,” she emphasized. (PAP)
