Hackers breached the private email of FBI Director Kash Patel and published his personal photos and old resume online, according to reports.
Hacking Attack on FBI Chief
Hackers posted a series of private photos of Patel and his old CV on their Telegram channel and website.
“Kash Patel, the current head of the FBI, who once proudly saw his name on the front page of the agency, will now find it on the list of victims whose systems have been successfully hacked,” a message on Telegram stated.
Confirmation from US Justice Department
Reuters reported that a US Department of Justice official confirmed a breach of the FBI director’s private email, stating the published materials appear authentic.
Domain Blocked by US Authorities
The United States has blocked the domain of the hacking group responsible.
FBI Staff Dismissals Before Potential Iran Operation
Just days before a potential large-scale US military operation in Iran (February 28th), FBI Director Kash Patel dismissed a dozen agents and employees from the counterintelligence unit responsible for monitoring threats from Iran. CNN sources indicate the employees were dismissed due to their involvement in an investigation regarding alleged possession of classified documents by former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
Handala Group Linked to Iranian Cyber Intelligence
This is reportedly another cyberattack by the same group, Handala, which began its activity during the Gaza war. Western researchers consider Handala, which calls itself a group of pro-Palestinian hacker vigilantes, to be one of several entities used by Iranian cyber intelligence units.
Recent Cyberattacks and Disruptions
In March, the group carried out a significant breach of medical device manufacturer Stryker’s systems, causing disruptions in hospital operations. The group also claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on defense contractor Lockheed Martin, but the company did not confirm a breach. Last week, the US Department of Justice blocked the group’s domain and several websites.
