Newly released audio recordings show an air traffic controller giving incorrect information to pilots during military training maneuvers ahead of an Air Show in Radom, Poland.
Controller Confuses Two Planes
TVN24 has published recordings of radio communications between the air traffic controller and pilots participating in pre-Air Show training in Radom. According to the information provided by the station, the air traffic controller mistakenly swapped the two planes at one point, providing incorrect information to the pilots.
Pilot Realizes Mistake
Based on the recordings, it has been determined that during the wait for permission to conduct the exercises over the Radom airport, F-16 pilot Major Maciej “Slab” Krakowian told the controller that the training and attack aircraft FA-50 had crossed the flight level in his immediate vicinity. The F-16 pilot then received information intended for FA-50, including a message stating that the sector belonged to it.
Poor Communication in Pre-Air Show Training
According to the information relayed, Major Krakowian himself realized that he was receiving the wrong information, corrected the controller, and reported again that FA-50 had flown close to him. The air traffic controller thanked for this information, redirected FA-50 to another location, and issued the final message to the F-16 pilot regarding clean airspace. TVN24 emphasized that during the pre-Air Show training in Radom, “the radio communication was poorly conducted by both parties, and situational awareness was lost.”
F-16 Crash in Radom
The crash occurred on Thursday, August 28, after 7:19 PM. During the pre-planned Air Show on the weekend, F-16 pilot Maciej “Slab” Krakowian, who served at the 31st Tactical Aviation Base in Poznan-Krzesiny, lost his life. The causes of the accident are being investigated.
