Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ) submitted an application to the State Atomic Agency (PAA) for the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant in Choczewo, Pomerania.
First Nuclear Power Plant Application Filed
The President of Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ), Marek Woszczyk, announced on Tuesday that the company had submitted an application to the President of the State Atomic Agency (PAA) for permission to build the first Polish nuclear power plant in the municipality of Choczewo, Pomerania.
Woszczyk stated during a press conference on Tuesday that the company is fulfilling its promise and formally submitting the application to the PAA for construction approval.
Location and Design of the Plant
The first nuclear power plant will be located in the municipality of Choczewo, Pomerania. The facility will consist of three units with AP1000 reactors from Westinghouse.
Polish Nuclear Power Plants, wholly owned by the State Treasury, is the investor and future operator, while Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium will be the contractor. The planned pouring of the first nuclear concrete is scheduled for 2028, with the commercial operation of the first unit expected to begin in 2036.
