The investigation into the 2017 accident involving then-Prime Minister Beata Szydło has been extended to June, with new charges filed.
Charges Against Former BOR Officers
The investigation, conducted by the Białystok Regional Prosecutor’s Office, involves nine individuals – including eight former officers of the Bureau of Protection (BOR, now the State Protection Service) – accused of providing false testimony related to the 2017 accident involving Prime Minister Beata Szydło in Oświęcim.
This case is a separate strand of the larger investigation into the Oświęcim accident, specifically focusing on perjury and concealing the truth during witness testimony by former BOR officers regarding the circumstances of the incident.
Key Issue: Siren Usage
A central point of contention concerns the use of audible signals during the passage of the government motorcade. The testimonies of the BOR officers served as evidence in investigations in Kraków, the Oświęcim District Court, and an appeal before the Kraków Regional Court.
Investigation Status and Timeline
Prosecutor Zbigniew Szpiczko announced on Tuesday that four of the eight former BOR officers currently serve in the SOP and have been suspended from duty due to the charges. The ninth suspect is a civilian resident of Oświęcim.
Prosecutor Szpiczko stated that investigative activities are ongoing, and the investigation has been extended to June 9th. (PAP)
