Presidential Palace Conference to Address Constitutional Tribunal Judges

A Presidential Palace conference is scheduled for Wednesday at noon, where the Head of the Chancellery will detail the President’s actions regarding the Constitutional Tribunal.

President to Clarify Decisions on Constitutional Tribunal

Presidential Spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz announced that Zbigniew Bogucki, Head of the Chancellery, will provide details on President Karol Nawrocki’s actions concerning the Constitutional Tribunal on Wednesday at 12:00 PM.

Two newly elected Constitutional Tribunal judges, selected by the Sejm, have been invited to the Presidential Palace prior to the conference.

Invitation to Newly Elected Judges

Dariusz Szostek, elected as a Constitutional Tribunal judge by the Sejm in mid-March, stated on Tuesday that he received an invitation to the Presidential Palace for Wednesday. He added that fellow elected judge, attorney Magdalena Bentkowska, also received an invitation.

Szostek’s invitation is for 11:30 AM, while Bentkowska’s is for 11:00 AM.

Presidential Rationale for Intervention

The Presidential Spokesperson stated on Wednesday in Radio Jedynka that the President “decided to regularize the situation in the Constitutional Tribunal as the highest representative of the Polish state and guardian of the constitution.”

Leśkiewicz noted that the ruling government had not appointed judges to vacancies in the Constitutional Tribunal and that the Donald Tusk government had not paid the salaries of Constitutional Tribunal judges.

Upcoming Conference Details

Leśkiewicz stated, “Let’s wait and see what happens. At 12:00 PM, Mr. Bogucki will explain all the details of the President’s actions regarding the Constitutional Tribunal.”

When asked if the oaths of office would be administered to the two invited Constitutional Tribunal judges, he responded, “Let’s wait until 12:00 PM.”
