A new poll in Hungary shows Peter Magyar’s TISZA party extending its lead over Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz, with elections scheduled for April 12th.
Growing Support for TISZA
A recent poll published by 24.hu indicates a continued increase in support for the opposition TISZA party over Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz. The 21 ResearchCenter study shows TISZA garnering 56% support among decided voters.
This represents an increase from 53% in early March, while Fidesz’s support has fallen from 39% to 37%. This marks the largest difference between the two parties ever recorded by the research center.
Significant Voter Gap
TISZA currently has approximately 900,000 more voters than Fidesz in Hungary. Among the general population, TISZA has 40% support, while Fidesz has 28%.
Notably, 26% of respondents remain undecided about their vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Confirmation from Second Poll
A similar trend was observed in another poll conducted by Zavecz Research and published on Tuesday. This poll indicates TISZA’s lead over Fidesz among decided voters has grown to 13 percentage points.
This is an increase from 12 points in February. The survey shows 51% support for the main opposition party in Hungary, and 38% for the ruling Fidesz.
Upcoming Parliamentary Elections
Both polls suggest that only the far-right Mi Hazank party, in addition to Magyar and Orbán’s parties, is likely to surpass the 5% electoral threshold. Hungary’s parliamentary elections will be held on April 12th.
Hungarians will elect 199 deputies to the National Assembly (Orszaggyules), with 106 elected in single-member districts and 93 from national party lists. The term of office for parliamentarians is four years.
