Scout’s Death and Initial Investigation

A scout died during the night of July 23-24, 2025, in Wilcze, Wolsztyn County, Wielkopolska province, while attempting a scouting proficiency test. The test involved swimming across a lake and lighting a fire on the opposite shore.

The scout disappeared underwater while crossing the lake. Firefighters from Wolsztyn, Kościana, and Poznań searched for the teenager, recovering his body around 5:30 AM.

Charges Filed Against Supervisor and Lifeguard

Investigators determined the scout was not secured by a boat during the lake crossing. Two individuals – the supervisor and a lifeguard – were detained. Both men were sober at the time.

Both men face charges of endangering life or causing serious bodily harm, and of unintentionally causing death.
