A fire broke out on the fourth floor of a building on Hynka Street in Rome on April 2nd, prompting the evacuation of approximately 30 residents.
Fire Origin and Spread
On Thursday, April 2nd, before 7 p.m., a fire erupted on the fourth floor of an apartment building located at Hynka 7. The fire originated on the stairwell, reportedly due to a short circuit in the electrical installation.
The short circuit ignited electrical and gas distribution boxes, as well as flammable materials stored on the stairwell, including carpets and rugs.
Resident Attempts to Extinguish Fire
The fire quickly produced heavy smoke, filling the stairwell and forcing approximately 30 residents to evacuate. Before the fire department arrived, one resident attempted to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher.
The resident suffered smoke inhalation during the attempt and received oxygen therapy from paramedics on the scene before being placed under medical care.
Fire Department Response and Aftermath
Four fire crews – three from JRG9 and one from JRG6, supported by the City Operational Group – quickly extinguished the fire upon arrival. They then focused on providing aid to the affected resident.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters ventilated the smoke-filled areas. Residents were allowed to return to their apartments, but gas and electricity were cut off to the stairwell where the fire occurred.
Damage Assessment
The most significant damage is concentrated on the third and fourth floors of the stairwell, affecting walls, common areas, and installations. The stairwell requires extensive renovation.
