Polish Police Shoot and Kill Escaping Arrestee

Arrest and Hospitalization

On Friday, April 3, 2026, police in Ostrów Mazowiecka detained a 51-year-old man who was subject to an arrest warrant. Due to a need for medical examinations, he was transported to the hospital in Ostrów Mazowiecka.

A doctor admitted the man to a ward for detailed diagnostics, and police maintained surveillance over him during his hospital stay.

Escape Attempt and Shooting

Around 11:00 AM on Sunday, April 5, the man attempted to escape while being escorted to an examination, running outside the hospital grounds. A police officer pursued him.

The man did not comply with orders to stop, prompting the officer to use his service weapon. The 51-year-old was shot and transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he died despite medical attention.

Investigation Launched

Police are conducting procedures under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrów Mazowiecka. The Internal Affairs Bureau of the Police has also been notified.
