Three Dead in Istanbul Shooting Near Israeli Consulate

An increased police presence remains in the vicinity of the Israeli consulate. A member of Istanbul’s Jewish community told the “Jerusalem Post” that the consulate has been inactive for two years and likely did not house Israeli diplomats.

Details of the Shooting

Reuters reports three people were killed and two police officers injured in the shooting. According to CNN’s Turkish branch, the fatalities were the attackers, who were shot by Turkish forces.

The “Jerusalem Post” notes it is unclear if the consulate was the intended target of the attack.

Turkish Investigation

Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek announced that the Prosecutor General’s office has launched an investigation into the incident.
