Cyclist Resuscitated on Easter Sunday

Warsaw municipal guards revived a man in his 60s who collapsed while cycling on Easter Sunday, utilizing an AED defibrillator.

Emergency Response on Praga-Południe

On April 5th, around 2:00 PM, municipal guards from the VII Territorial Unit were patrolling the Praga-Południe district when they observed a man tending to a person lying on the grass near Makowska Street.

A crowd had gathered around the scene. The officers immediately approached, bringing an AED defibrillator from their patrol vehicle. They found a man, approximately 60 years old, who had likely lost consciousness while riding his bicycle.

Life-Saving Intervention

The victim was not breathing, and the bystander was performing CPR. The guards cleared the airway, connected the defibrillator, and activated the device.

One of the responding officers reported that the rescue was complicated by the surrounding crowd, making it difficult to hear the defibrillator’s prompts and ensure no one was exposed to electrical shock during discharge. Guards continued CPR until paramedics arrived.

First Responder and Training

Paramedics took over the resuscitation efforts and transported the man to the hospital after a few minutes. A passing taxi driver, who possessed rescue qualifications, initiated aid before the guards arrived.

Over 150 municipal guards are certified in first aid, and all undergo regular training. A citizen budget project equipped most patrol vehicles with AED defibrillators, increasing the effectiveness of resuscitation efforts.
