Hungary Election: Tight Race Hinges on Undecided Voters

A final poll before Hungary’s parliamentary elections shows a close contest between TISZA and Fidesz, with 25% of voters still undecided.

Election Overview

Hungary will hold elections for its 199-seat National Assembly, contested by five party committees and representatives from twelve national minorities.

Tight Polling Numbers

The latest poll, published on April 10th, indicates TISZA with 38% support, while Fidesz has 29%. The far-right Mi Hazank (Our Homeland Movement) party holds 4% support.

The Undecided Vote

A significant 25% of respondents remain undecided, potentially determining the outcome of the election. Both a strong victory for TISZA and a last-minute win for Fidesz are possible.

Among decided voters, TISZA enjoys 52% support.

Internal Polling Data

Internal polling data from TISZA suggests a lead of up to 25% over Fidesz, not only in key regions but also in northern Hungary, traditionally a Fidesz stronghold.

Recent Poll Results

A March poll by Median showed TISZA at 58% among decided voters, with Fidesz at 35%. A separate poll on April 8th by 21 Research Center indicated 56% support for TISZA and 37% for Fidesz among decided voters.

Party Platforms: Fidesz

Fidesz focuses on defending national sovereignty, combating illegal migration, supporting families economically, and strengthening ties with select partners, including the European right.

Orbán criticized EU bureaucrats on X for demanding billions for Ukraine, stating Hungary will not contribute financially or militarily to the conflict.

Party Platforms: TISZA

TISZA’s platform centers on national renewal, fighting corruption, improving public services, and closer alignment with the EU. The party aims to unlock EU funds by restoring the rule of law and actively participating in European structures.

Magyar stated on X that Hungary is offering a “humanitarian and peaceful response” to a “vile, brutal, and intimidated regime,” and that Hungary is on the verge of realizing its vision.

A TISZA victory could allow the party to change the constitution and enact laws necessary to unlock EU funds, requiring 133 seats in the National Assembly.
